Illegal immigrants unable to pay for their journeys across Greece borders are being sold to organ traffickers, an smuggler has told to tsismosaonline.com news reporter.

Nuredin Wehabrebi Atta, who was arrested by police in 2014, is the first foreigner given witness protection by Greek authorities, after revealing details that have led to arrests of dozens of alleged members of an elaborate criminal network trafficking drugs, arms and migrants from Africa to Europe.

Those who were unable to pay for their voyages “were sold for €15,000 to groups, particularly Egyptians, who were involved in removing and selling organs,” Atta claimed.

His testimony led police to an alleged trafficking network which they broke up on Monday, arresting 23 and issuing arrest warrants for another 15 people in raids across Greek Borders.

The group included 25 Eritreans, 12 Ethiopians and an Greek who police said belonged to an organisation that had smuggled thousands of migrants into Europe from Africa.

The arrests were part of a lengthy investigation conducted by  police connected to Atta's testimony that revealed cells in Europe.

More than €526,000 and $25,000 in cash was recovered in June from the  headquartered in a perfume shop near the city’s central station.

The former people smuggler was sentenced to five years in prison in February for his role in the operation.

He said he decided to collaborate “because there have been too many deaths in the sea” and referred in particular to the 2013 tragedy in which 360 people were killed at Lampedusa, although he said he was not involved in it.

“The deaths that we are aware of are a small part of it,” Atta told police. “ In Eritrea alone there have been victims in 8 out of 10 families.”

A report released by Amnesty International on Friday revealed horrifying accounts of sexual violence, torture and religious persecution on the people smuggling routes from other Countries to Greece.

Tension Mounts With Disgruntled Migrants in Greece

The number of refugees and migrants in Greece had reached 52,207 on Tuesday with more arriving every day from Turkey illegally. As a result there is tension at the Greece-FYROM border and Piraeus Port.
About 14,000 frustrated refugees at Idomeni — on the Greece-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border crossing point — live under poor conditions, while waiting for the border to open. Despite the insistence of Greek authorities that the border will never open again, refugees refuse to live in area in the hope that the border would open.
On Tuesday, the situation at the Idomeni tent city was explosive. Hundreds of refugees staged a protest demanding the opening of the border with FYROM and blocked road access to and from the camp. Some pelted stones at members of a non government organization who were trying to distribute food. An NGO left the camp saying that the conditions are not safe to do their work.
Refugees tell to tsismosaonline.com news reportes that the conditions are now intolerable because of complete lack of hygiene and food shortages. Two of them set themselves on fire and were transferred to the hospital in Thessaloniki.
Health Minister Andreas Xanthos visited Idomeni to assess the situation and had discussions with all pertinent organizations. The minister will also visit all migrant hospitality centers in northern Greece.
At Piraeus Port, more than 5,000 refugees and migrants are camping out waiting to be transferred to hospitality centers. The Piraeus Medical Association issued a health hazard warning as the refugees live under squalid conditions.
President of the association Nikos Platanisiotis called on the state to transport the people into organized hospitality centers. He said that as summer is approaching and the heat is rising, health risks are increasing.
Meanwhile, on Lesbos and Chios, refugees protest that the registration centers (hotspots) have turned into closed-end structures after the European Union-Turkey agreement on Friday.
At the same time the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees expressed in the strongest way the reaction to the content of the EU-Turkey agreement, which it considers illegal.
UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming announced that UNHCR stopped some activities on the Greek islands because it opposes the new EU-Turkey agreement, namely the conversion of hot spots into closed structures.
However, despite the fact that Turkey agreed to stem the flow of refugees to Greece by blocking people smugglers across its shores, refugees keep arriving on Greek islands on a daily basis. Three days after the EU-Turkey treaty went into effect, and the inflow of migrants remain the same.

Cyprus-27-year old Filipina mother and undocumented worker jumped from the 5th floor of a building when the immigration police attempt to check

A young Filipina mother fell to her death from the 5th floor of an apartment complex in Nicosia on Friday, in an attempt to flee police immigrant checks.
Police were performing routine checks following reports that immigrants without residence permits were staying in the building.
When the 27-year-old woman from the Philippines whose permit had expired long time ago, was informed of police presence, unnoticed she tried to get to the next door apartment via the building’s skylight.
No one saw her fall. She was found later heavily injured when neighbours went searching for her after the police had gone.
She was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning.
The unfortunate woman was a mother of three young children and was residing in Nicosia with her Nepalese partner.

I was at work in a restaurant when I heard immigration police was arresting undocumented workers. Two armed men with badges showed up on my apartment complex in Nicosia the husbund said. My neighborhood was full of armed officers and flashing police lights. All my neighbors were out on the street.
I was born in a small farming town in Nepal and came to Cyprus without papers at 20 years old. The lingo for people like me is a “Dreamer” .I knew we were undocumented, but I didn’t yet understand what it meant. I was different. Like when my friends got their licenses, and I couldn’t. Or when I tried to find work, but was told I wouldn’t be able to. That’s when I started to realize what life without immigration papers was going to be like.
I started to feel pretty bad about myself, too, like I wasn’t good enough, because I wasn’t like the other legal foreigners. I worried about stuff like that all the time. I worried about how I could help support my family financially, too.  I need to work to support my family, and I need documents in order to do that lawfully. My children won’t have their mother by their side. Who could ever call that justice?
Deportation: What Happens if you are Deported
Deportation is a serious problem for  undocumented workers. If you over stay your visa, work illegally or break the law, you are liable for deportation. However, deportations can happen by accident too.
There are a few things to keep in mind regarding deportation orders. Usually, the orders will give you a chance to leave of your own free will and most of the time, you won’t get an ugly deportation stamp in the back of your passport and more likely than not, be allowed back into the country after a set amount of time (or simply after you leave and get a new visa). Deportation orders usually come with terms and conditions, you must leave within a set amount of time, buy your own ticket out (don’t necessarily need to go home but you can’t stay here) and stay outside the country for a set period of time.
If you violate the deportation orders, you are in for a nasty surprise. You will more likely than not be detained in an immigration detention centre while the host country processes you out. If you are detained, you can expect to sit in the detention centre for up to a week and sometimes longer. At this point, it is an official deportation, you get the deportation stamp in the back of your passport and free ticket home (they usually don’t give you a plane ticket to anywhere but your home country). You may have just stopped and saw I said free ticket and yes, it is free in a sense but you will be billed for the ticket and usually fined, it will be much more expensive than if you had self-deported.
If you were forcefully deported, cross that country off the places you cannot visit again as you won’t be allowed back in until you repay the ticket, fine and have to wait a set period of time, that is if they even let you back in. Not only that, be prepared to answer some questions at the next port of entry as immigration officers really don’t like seeing deportation stamps. However, hope is not lost if you find yourself with one of those stamps in the back of your passport and in fact, is easy to rectify (won’t help you get back into the country you were deported from).
Keep in mind, most countries ask you if you have ever been deported or removed from a country. If you have but never got the stamp or it is no longer in your (new) passport, then tick no.  If you have that stamp and the arrival card asks if you have been deported, obviously you need to tick yes because it will be quite obvious to the immigration officer you are lying and you’ll probably be booted out of another country.

On August 22, migrants and refugees were desperately trying to bypass the FYROM police and army forces, located at the neutral zone near the Greek-FYROM border. Several were injured as thousands of people were trying to forcibly enter the country in their journey to northern Europe. The policemen and military forces lined at the border were watching the refugees cross the border and head to the Gevgelija railway station on foot. On Saturday, around 2,000 refugees were transferred to Greece, while according to the Greek authorities’ estimates, there are at least 5,000 migrants and refugees located in the neutral zone. More than 1,500 refugees passed through the barbed wire, while police officers were trying to stop them, using their batons and throwing stun grenades. Mytilene: Fight broke between migrants at the port Groups of migrants and refugees clashed at the port of Mytilene while waiting for the ferry that would transfer them to the port of Piraeus, in the Greek capital. Two men were seriously injured and transported to the local hospital in ambulances. More than 10,000 refugees are stranded on the Greek island of Lesvos. Lesvos authorities are faced with an unprecedented situation, without the necessary infrastructure and no support from the central government, leading to chaos. According to the locals, the influx of refugees continues to rise. The arrivals from Turkey are out of control, while the refugees state they are determined to not return to their war-hit countries. Another 2,500 refugees arrive in Athens Greek passenger ship “Eleftherios Venizelos” arrived at the port of Piraeus at 8:10 am, carrying 2,466 Syrian refugees from various islands on the eastern Aegean. The ship was carrying 628 refugees from Kos, 75 from Kalymnos, 967 from Leros and 796 from Samos. The port authority in Piraeus had taken all the necessary steps for the refugees’ safe disembarkation. The majority of refugees will be transported by bus to a local metro station and then to Athens’ main railway station so they can travel to northern Greece.

Two hundred and fifty two (252) persons for violation of the Law "on drugs." Seventy-one (71) persons for breaking the law. "On prostitutes." One hundred and fourteen (114) persons for violation of the law "on the arms." Four hundred fifteen (415) people for breaking the law. "illegal immigrants." Sixteen (16) persons for breaking the law. "On gambling." Twenty (20) people for breaking the law. "Copyright". Four hundred and nineteen (419) persons with interceptors documents. Eighty-three (83) persons for fraud - forgery. Seven (7) persons for smuggling migrants. One (1) person for seduction and sexual abuse against minors. Seven (7) persons for extortion. Five (5) people for illegally practicing the profession of exclusive nurse. Six hundred twenty-four (624) individuals for various offenses (Health offenses, traffic violations in degree misdemeanor etc.).
Cases solved 
One (1) homicide. Forty-three (43) Robbery against minors, pedestrians and drivers. Thirty-eight (38) robberies in shops, banks and hotels. Twenty five (25) burglary-theft from homes. Sixteen (16) burglary-vehicle thefts. Three (3) theft of pedestrians. Two (2) fraud using the "Nigerian fraud".

Two (2) gangs were committing robberies to pedestrians and drivers. Two (2) gangs committing burglary-theft from homes and wallet theft. One (1) drug trafficking gang. European Union Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship for Greece said challenges are complicated

European Union Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos underlined during the European Parliament’s plenary debate on migration yesterday that the migration and asylum challenges the EU is currently facing are complicated, as proved by the MEPs questions.
“We are confronted with the highest migratory pressure at our external borders since the Balkan crisis,” Avramopoulos declared, adding that this crisis requires an integrated approach, including foreign and security policies. In addition, the Greek Commissioner highlighted the need for solidarity and responsibility among the EU member states for “building a common European migration and asylum system, with common standards and rights for migrants.”
Furthermore, Avramopoulos said that the Frontex Police and the European Asylum Support Office are useful tools when solidarity is put in practice. “Relocation has been developed by the Commission and we will continue to work on this. We have the early warning mechanism and the possibilities offered by Article 33 of the Dublin III Regulation. Some of these tools have already proven their worth. We need to further develop and use all of them, as appropriate,” he said, declaring that apart from the EU agencies, non-governmental organizations can also assist, while expressing his ideas over the asylum system that should change: “We must ensure protection for all victims and a strong criminal response to traffickers, working closely with all the Justice and Home Affairs Agencies who implement actions on anti-trafficking.”
Avramopoulos also mentioned that there are clear warnings that smuggling is on the rise and the EU needs to increase its response accordingly. “We need to build a stronger criminal justice response to stop this crime, investigating and prosecuting those in charge more severely,” he underlined, adding that the counter-migrant smuggling system needs to focus on the dislocation of the smuggling networks through intelligence sharing between EU country-members, investigation capacity increase and prosecution.

Hunger Strike After Death of Immigrant at Greek Detention Camp - No Filipino had threatened

The death of Pakistani illegal immigrant Mohamed Asfak sparked the hunger strike of hundreds of detainees at the Amygdaleza detention center on Monday.
Asfak had been suffering from respiratory problems for months. However, he was not hospitalized until his condition worsened. After protests from his fellow inmates, he was transferred to the hospital where he died on November 6. The cause of his death was not announced by the detention camp authorities. The authorities notified the Pakistani Embassy about the death of the 26-year-old man on November 7.
According to anti-racist activist group KEERFA and the Pakistani Community of Greece, Asfak was beaten violently by police during a protest uprising at the illegal immigrants detention center in Corinth. The Pakistani man had repeatedly asked to be treated for his injuries but he had never received any medical attention.
KEERFA said that the detainees chose to go on hunger strike on November 17 as a symbolic move because the particular date marks the 41st anniversary of the student uprising against the junta.
The Amygdaleza detention center is 10 kilometers away from Athens and it is supposed to hold 1,000 inmates. In October, the number of detainees was 1,600. The facility has repeatedly come under serious criticism both due to the indefinite time of the detention of illegal immigrants, as well as the squalid conditions they are held in.
According to the Greek Justice Ministry, the prison population is 40% over capacity, with 13,000 detainees crammed into facilities that are only designed to accommodate 9,000. Greece is asking for more funds for the European Union to handle the influx of immigrants from war-torn Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Athens has also called for a revision of the “Dublin Regulation,” which makes the first EU country crossed by illegal immigrants responsible for their future asylum applications.

Train Kills Two illegall Immigrants Near Greek-Turkish Border said the Greek police

Greek police say two men, believed to have been Syrian refugees who entered the country illegally, have been hit by a train and killed close to Greece’s eastern border with Turkey.
The train driver was arrested hours later and told police he didn’t realize he had struck the men, who had been walking along a foggy stretch of track early Friday. The bodies were spotted by the driver of another train.
Greece has for years been a major destination for migrants – mostly from troubled parts of the Middle East and Africa – who pay gangs to smuggle them into Europe.
Arrivals have increased this year amid heavy fighting in Syria, while scores of people have perished trying to enter the country illegally in crowded, unseaworthy boats from Turkey.

The two Filipinos men -age 25 and 23 years old they fell into the hands of the police team DI.AS. yesterday morning in Ampelokipous of Athens. The police officers asked to see their documents and they showed fake passports passports with fake entry stamps into the country. 
The false travel documents were seized. The two Filipinos men arrested and led to Public Prosecutor of Athens, while questioning the Immigration Police.

Undercover Greek Police Arrest Migrant Traffickers while attempting to convey 13 foreigners to Italy

Greek police in the port of Patras in southern Greece have recently arrested five members of a migrant trafficking group operating out of Greece and Italy. A sixth member remains undetained. The traffickers were arrested while attempting to convey 13 foreigners to Italy in the cargo hold of a truck.
The traffickers include two Greek men, 52 and 64, a Greek woman, 40, and two Iraqi nationals, 36 and 40. Hiding in the truck were 12 Syrians and one Iraqi.
The gang’s failed operation began at noon last Wednesday. The 64-year old Greek parked his truck in the Zavlani region of Patra. The 36-year old Iraqi subsequently transferred the 13 immigrants into the truck; the 64-year old then departed for the new port of Patras. Meanwhile, the 52-year old man and the 40-year old woman led with two different cars in the hopes of scouting out any police officers on route.
The five traffickers were arrested at the new port by an undercover police officer who had witnessed the entire operation.

Police Arrest Man for Transporting Undocumented Filipino in Northern Greece

On Sunday, a police immigration unit in northern Greece arrested an Albanian national for attempting to traffic Filipino migrants down the Egnatia highway.
The 27-year-old man, suspected of being a member of a migrant trafficking ring, was driving a lorry in which police found 16 undocumented Filipino.
According to the investigation, the lorry belongs to a Bulgarian national. The migrants boarded it in Evros, a Greek prefecture bordering Turkey and Bulgaria.
The filipino were planning to travel from Greece to other European countries, and appear to have paid 2,500 euros.
The man will appear before a prosecutor this week. Authorities are expected to start deportation procedures for the migrants shortly.

Greek Government Takes NEW Steps to Tackle Ebola Virus for illegal migrants

In an effort to stem any potential Ebola virus outbreak within Greece, the Greek Ministry of Health is redoubling its efforts to reinforce the country’s borders and stock its hospitals.
According to a recent Ministry of Health statement, the Secretariat of Public Health is planning on taking vast new measures against the Ebola virus. The national plan will include thorough checks on ships and aircrafts coming from African countries where the virus has spread – thus far, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Nigeria.
Passengers onboard flights which have come from any of these locations, or those who have passed via Greek airports to a secondary destination, will be required to complete a specific questionnaire which will document their epidemiological data – taking note, for example, if the passenger had travelled to one of the infected countries or if they displayed any suspicious symptoms.
Furthermore, workers at Greece’s Thessaloniki and Athens airports, as well as at the port of Piraeus and other islands which serve as major gateways for illegal migrants, will be reinforced with special gloves and masks. Human resources, especially health professionals, will also be designated for these entry ways.
The operational plan – agreed to by the Greek Ministries of Health, Public Order and Shipping – also addresses people who work in those public health units which will be called on to deal with any possible instances of the Ebola virus. Nurses, doctors and other employees have already been invited to “refresh” their knowledge of personal protection and hygiene measures in order to nullify the chances of Ebola transmission through the health system – as happened recently in Spain.

Greece has started a new immigration program for Greek Residence Permit

Greece has started a new immigration program in hopes that it will boost its suffering due to the economic crisis real estate market by encouraging investments. According to the new Law 4146/2013, third-country citizens (non-EU citizens), who buy property in Greece, the value of which reaches or exceeds the amount of €250.000, may obtain 5 year residence permits. Furthermore, third country citizens, who have signed rental agreements for hotels or touristic facilities for the amount of €250.000 or more, may also acquire 5 year residence permits. Only the immediate family members of the person making the investment have the right to obtain said permits. A husband and wife can purchase one said property in joint tenancy, of €250.000 value. For more than one co-owner who are not married, each person’s interest in the property should be at least €250.000.  It should be clarified that if a person of a third country decides to invest in Greek property pursuant to this Law, they can only obtain a Greek residence permit (renewable every five years for as long as they continue to own the property), but not a Greek passport/citizenship. The process involves first applying for an entry permit to the Consulate of the applicant’s place of residence.  In general, the documents that should be presented to the Consulate in order to procure the entry permit are an agreement with an attorney or a real estate agent and the documents necessary for the residence permit application are: 1) Αcertificate of an A class bank or of any other financial institution, which certify the existence of at least 250.000 Euro and also the intention of the applicant to purchase the property. 2) Two application forms. The aforementioned application must be submitted by the applicant himself of by an attorney at law, but at the time of the submission the applicant must be present in Greece. 3) Three resent color photos. 4) A certified copy of the applicant’s passport. 5) A health certificate issued by a Greek hospital verifying that the applicant has no health issues that would pose a danger to public health. 6) A certified copy of the purchase Deed. 7) A Notary’s Confirmation that the purchase Deed fulfills the provisions of law for obtaining a residence permit. 8) A Land Registry certificate. 9) An Insurance Policy proving that the applicant can cover his medical expenses while in Greece. 10) A 75 € application fee. The aforementioned documents should be drafted in Greek, except from those which are issued in a foreign country and bear the proper authentication (an apostille or certification by the consulate).

Arrested (13-1-2014) in the early morning hours at the southern junction of Highway Didymoteichou Orestiadas - Alexandroupolis , from the officer of the Department of Border Guarding Didymoteichou Orestiadas the Police Department , α 56-year old alien , citizen Bulgaria, who promoted within the country seven ( 7)  migrants who are nationals of Afghanistan . Specifically , the police arrested  the 56-year old man because the identified lead car with Spanish number plates and transfer within the seven (7 ) migrants , which promoted illegally inland. Seized one (1 )  car, the sum of 90 euros and one (1 ) mobile phone . The arrested will go to Mr. Public Prosecutor Orestiadas while acting questioning the Department of Border Guarding Didymoteichou .
